MMA news

Christopher Ewert`s brief tenure with the UFC came to an abrupt end, lasting less than a week.

The undefeated middleweight was signed on only a few days` notice as a replacement for Sedriques Dumas to face Jackson McVey in the opening preliminary fight of UFC 317, scheduled for Saturday in Las Vegas. However, during Friday`s official weigh-ins, it was announced that the Ewert vs. McVey bout had been cancelled due to weight cutting complications on Ewert`s part.

According to the UFC`s official weigh-in broadcast, Ewert weighed in 10 pounds over the allowed middleweight limit. Following this issue, he has been released from the promotion.

Despite his opponent`s withdrawal, Jackson McVey still participated in the UFC 317 official weigh-ins, successfully making weight at 185 pounds. UFC officials also confirmed they are actively working to book a new fight for McVey as soon as possible.

The UFC 317 event at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday is set to proceed with a total of 11 bouts. The main event features former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria competing against Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title. In the co-main event, Alexandre Pantoja will defend his flyweight championship for the fourth time against Kai Kara-France.
