Fighter Change Announced for UFC 317 Middleweight Bout

MMA news

UFC 317 is undergoing another roster change just days before the highly anticipated pay-per-view event.

The promotion has announced an adjustment to the scheduled middleweight contest: Sedriques Dumas is out of his bout against newcomer Jackson McVey for undisclosed reasons. Stepping in on short notice will be another undefeated prospect making his organizational debut, Christopher Ewert.

Ewert began his professional career in December 2022 and is set to make his first UFC appearance at the annual International Fight Week card less than three years later. The 31-year-old prospect was initially slated to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series in August but now receives his opportunity in the Octagon looking to extend his perfect 8-0 record. His two most recent fights took place under the Fury FC banner, where he secured a first-round knockout victory against AJ Chambers and a decision win over Reese Watkins.

His opponent, Jackson McVey, boasts a perfect finishing rate in his young professional career, having never seen a second round in any of his six victories, all coming via first-round stoppage. The 26-year-old has only had one fight extend beyond the two-minute mark.

The main event of UFC 317 features a clash for the vacant lightweight championship between former featherweight king Ilia Topuria and former 155-pound titleholder Charles Oliveira. In the co-headliner, flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja puts his title on the line against dangerous knockout artist Kai Kara-France.
