Erin Blanchfield didn`t get the chance to compete at UFC Vegas 107, so she couldn`t leave as a winner. However, she will still receive her full payment as if the fight happened.
The planned five-round main event on Saturday was cancelled shortly before it was scheduled to begin because Blanchfield`s opponent, Maycee Barber, was not medically cleared to compete. This was a frustrating conclusion to fight week for the New Jersey native, but she will not suffer financially.
Following the unfortunate cancellation, the UFC confirmed that Blanchfield would receive both her “show” money and her “win” bonus.
This payment was confirmed by Blanchfield`s longtime manager, Oren Hodak of KO Reps, initially via social media and later to MMA Fighting.
Given the circumstances – Barber`s late withdrawal after also missing weight by half a pound on Friday (which cost Barber 20% of *her* purse) – this outcome is the most favorable for Blanchfield.
While she would undoubtedly have preferred to fight, receiving her full contracted pay allows Blanchfield to rest and recover after a complete training camp before scheduling her next bout in the UFC.
Immediately following the cancellation, Blanchfield dismissed the possibility of rescheduling the fight against Barber. Instead, she expressed her desire to face a highly-ranked opponent for her next fight.
“No, I would not want to book another fight with her,” Blanchfield stated during the post-event press conference. “I would like to reassess, see who`s available.”
She continued, “I still want to fight within the top five, still push towards that title fight. I think I need to talk to my manager, talk to Mick [Maynard], see what can happen.”
Blanchfield is coming off a significant win against former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and is considered a leading contender for the current flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, who recently defeated Manon Fiorot at UFC 315 in May.
