Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from Great Britain`s Billie Jean King Cup matches in the Netherlands due to fitness concerns.

The former US Open champion will take a short break from the WTA Tour this month to concentrate on her training in the UK.

According to her team, Raducanu “loves representing Team GB in this event” but has had a “very packed schedule this year”.

Although there is no specific injury, her team believes it is beneficial in the long term for her to take a break from major tournaments to rest and focus on a “mini training block for the next two to three weeks”.

In 2025, Raducanu has traveled extensively, participating in 14 matches across seven tournaments in various locations including Australia, Singapore, UAE (twice), Qatar, and the United States (twice).

While no exact return date has been announced, the decision to withdraw from upcoming competitions is not expected to affect her preparations for the French Open in Paris in late May.

Next week, Great Britain will compete against the Netherlands and Germany on consecutive days in an attempt to qualify for the BJK Cup Finals in Shenzhen, China, in November.

This unexpected decision has required team captain Anne Keothavong to find replacements as they face a crucial week for international duty.

Raducanu, 22, had a successful run at the Miami Open in March, reaching the quarter-finals where she was defeated in three sets by American world No.4 Jessica Pegula.

Her performance in Florida marked her first four-game winning streak in almost four years, and she has since climbed back into the world`s top 50.

During that period in Miami, she was supported by Mark Petchey, a commentator for the Tennis Channel.

It is unclear whether this was a one-time arrangement or if they will work together in the future.

It is understood that Petchey`s TV employers would be supportive if he were to take on a coaching role.

However, Raducanu is still searching for a permanent coach.

Her team stated that there are no updates on her coaching arrangements yet.
