Diego Lopes and Jean Silva to Main Event Noche UFC in San Antonio

MMA news

Featherweight contenders Diego Lopes and Jean Silva are slated to face off in a five-round main event at the upcoming Noche UFC event. The highly anticipated bout is scheduled for September 13th in San Antonio.

UFC CEO Dana White made the official announcement regarding this matchup on Tuesday evening.

This pairing features a fighter who recently challenged for divisional gold contrasting with one of the sport`s most rapidly ascending talents. Lopes is looking to bounce back from his title fight loss against Alexander Volkanovski, while Silva aims to maintain his perfect five-win streak since joining the UFC roster.

Prior to his championship opportunity, Lopes had amassed an impressive run of five consecutive victories, including significant wins over established fighters like Brian Ortega, Dan Ige, and Sodiq Yusuff. Although he fell short in his title bid, Lopes remains recognized as a top contender in the 145-pound division globally.

Jean Silva, the 28-year-old competitor from the Fighting Nerds team, has made a significant impact with his explosive performances in the UFC. Most recently, at UFC 314 in April, Silva secured a dominant victory over Bryce Mitchell using a notable “ninja choke” submission.

Overall, Silva holds a flawless 5-0 record inside the octagon, with each of his victories coming via either knockout or submission finish.

He will look to extend this unblemished record when he meets Lopes in September. A win in this main event slot could potentially position him for a future championship opportunity.

The Noche UFC event is set to take place in San Antonio, with more fights expected to be confirmed and added to the card in the coming weeks.
