Chris Eubank Jr. will face significant financial penalty for missing weight ahead of his much-anticipated boxing match against Conor Benn.
The bout is set to headline the Fatal Fury event in London on Saturday. During Friday`s official weigh-in, Eubank Jr. initially failed to meet the 160-pound limit, coming in at 0.2 pounds over. On his second attempt, he weighed 160.05 pounds, still slightly above the required mark. This resulted in a hefty fine of $500,000 (£375,000), as stipulated by a weight clause in his contract.
In addition to the fine, Eubank Jr. must not exceed 170 pounds during a second weigh-in scheduled for Saturday, the day of the fight.
Following the news, Conor Benn, who successfully made weight at 156.4 pounds, reacted on Twitter, appearing clearly pleased with the development.
“Show me the motherf*cking money,” Benn tweeted.
Eubank Jr. also shared his thoughts on the situation via his Instagram page.
“Pain is temporary… glory is forever,” Eubank Jr. wrote.
The build-up to this grudge match has encountered several issues. The fight`s status could potentially still be impacted depending on Eubank Jr.`s weight management before the event. The 35-year-old Eubank Jr. enters the fight following two consecutive knockout victories, while the 28-year-old Benn remains undefeated in his professional career with a record of 23-0.
This will be Benn`s first appearance in the ring in 14 months, his last fight being a decision win against Peter Dobson in February 2024.
