In a significant upset at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters on Monday, Argentine 16th seed Francisco Cerundolo defeated three-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round with a score of 7-5, 6-4. This commanding victory marks Cerundolo’s 15th win of the 2026 season. The unexpected loss will have a considerable impact on Tsitsipas’s ranking, pushing him down to approximately world No. 65 – his lowest position since 2018. The result was particularly surprising given Tsitsipas’s formidable 22-4 record at the Monte-Carlo Country Club over his seven previous appearances in the tournament.
