Carlos Ulberg Wins Against Jan Blachowicz at UFC London

MMA news

Carlos Ulberg continued his winning streak to eight fights on Saturday, but despite his aspirations for a championship opportunity, he may still need to prove himself further after his victory over former titleholder Jan Blachowicz in the co-main event of UFC London.

The fight, lasting three rounds, was uneventful. Ulberg maintained distance, using combinations of one or two punches, while Blachowicz persistently pursued him around the octagon, landing leg kicks. It wasn`t an action-packed fight, but ultimately, all judges scored it 29-28, awarding Ulberg a unanimous decision victory.

“He was a very tough opponent, clearly,” Ulberg acknowledged after the fight. “He is nearing the end of his career but was determined to make a statement. It’s always valuable to share the octagon with him.”

“I now have the longest active win streak in the light heavyweight division. For me, the only goal is a title shot. That’s my sole focus.”

Blachowicz`s constant pressure pushed Ulberg back early in the fight, but the former light heavyweight champion didn`t deliver much offense. In response, Ulberg landed a strong straight right punch to Blachowicz`s chin, forcing him to retreat.

Blachowicz regained composure and began using leg kicks while defending against Ulberg`s fast strikes.

Both fighters seemed cautious about engaging aggressively, with Blachowicz and Ulberg often exchanging single punches before disengaging. When Ulberg did commit to a series of strikes, Blachowicz countered with powerful punches.

Blachowicz appeared content with leg kicks, while Ulberg used long jabs, though neither fighter`s attacks were particularly effective.

After a closely contested first ten minutes, Ulberg attempted to attack Blachowicz, but the experienced Polish fighter countered with several solid strikes. A strong left hand from Blachowicz snapped Ulberg`s head back, but Ulberg responded with more straight punches.

The fight was very close, with Ulberg being more active, but Blachowicz landing with more power. The judges favored Ulberg`s activity, giving him the win, but it appears he still needs to do more to earn a UFC title shot.

For Blachowicz, this loss marks his third fight without a win (0-2-1 in his last three), and at 42 years old, his future in the sport is uncertain.
