Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford Moved to New Date, Location

MMA news

The highly anticipated boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford now has a new date, with a new location expected to be announced shortly.

Promoter Turki Alalshikh confirmed via The Ring magazine that the planned super middleweight championship bout between Canelo and Crawford is shifting from its initial date of September 12th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The fight is now set for September 13th, though the venue remains undecided.

Potential host cities include Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and New York. This event is part of Alalshikh`s Riyadh Season series and marks the debut show for Dana White`s TKO Boxing promotion.

According to a report from ESPN, the change in venue is reportedly due to a conflict with a UNLV college football game scheduled at Allegiant Stadium on the new date, September 13th.

The date change is particularly noteworthy because September 13th also hosts UFC 320 in Guadalajara, Mexico (marketed as UFC Noche 3). If the Canelo-Crawford fight lands in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or New York as speculated, it would directly compete for viewership with the UFC event, unless it`s held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which would result in an earlier North American broadcast time.

Neither Turki Alalshikh nor Dana White has publicly addressed this potential scheduling conflict.

In his last fight on May 3rd, Canelo (63-2-2) defeated William Scull to reclaim his status as undisputed super middleweight champion. He had previously vacated the IBF belt, which Scull later won. That fight was criticized for being uneventful and registered the lowest punch output for a 12-round bout in CompuBox history (since 1985).

Crawford (41-0), who is undefeated, will move up two weight classes from super welterweight for this challenge. His most recent bout in August saw him secure a unanimous decision victory against Israil Madrimov, maintaining his perfect professional record.
