After three years, former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been officially sentenced following his arrest in 2022.
On Monday, Velasquez received a five-year prison sentence, with credit for time served, after pleading no contest to charges including attempted murder. This stems from a February 2022 incident where Velasquez engaged in an 11-mile high-speed chase, pursuing a car containing Harry Goularte, who was accused of molesting Velasquez’s son. During the chase, Velasquez fired multiple rounds from a .40-caliber at the vehicle, injuring Goularte’s stepfather, Paul Bender, in the arm.
Judge Arthur Bocanegra delivered the sentence, crediting Velasquez with 1,283 days served, including time in jail and house arrest. This means the 42-year-old is expected to spend less than two additional years in prison.
The news prompted a wave of responses from professional fighters, both inside and outside the UFC, as well as from MMA fans.
