Anthony Edwards` impressive performance (30 points, five assists) against the Golden State Warriors on Monday caught the attention of a basketball legend.
After leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 117-110 victory over the Warriors at the Chase Center, giving them a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semifinals, Edwards left the court to MVP chants. He then went up to former Seattle SuperSonics point guard Gary Payton and shared a hug.
In return, Edwards received a signed, vintage SuperSonics jersey from Payton.
Edwards explained his interaction: “I approached him because I`ve heard so much about him, and watching film confirmed how great he was,” Edwards stated. “I told him I`m a big fan and admired his defense, and even offensively, he had a complete game.”
Edwards also praised Payton`s son, Gary Payton II, who plays for the Warriors.
“His son`s defensive style is quite similar to his,” Edwards commented. “He`s very active with his hands and plays a physical game.”
In the Western Conference semifinals, Edwards is currently averaging 27.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and four assists. His 30 points in Game 4 marked his 13th career playoff game with at least 30 points.
