Recently, UFC commentator Joe Rogan mentioned that Alex Pereira fought with a broken hand and norovirus at UFC 313 against Magomed Ankalaev. However, Pereira clarified that this wasn`t completely accurate.
While Pereira confirmed he wasn`t in perfect condition for the fight, he stated in an interview that his hands were not broken.
Pereira explained that he doesn`t like making excuses, even if he disagrees with the fight`s decision. He acknowledged that everyone faces challenges and he had his own leading up to the fight. He emphasized that his hand was fine, but other significant issues occurred.
Although Pereira didn`t disclose the specific problems before his first light heavyweight defeat, he hinted that he might discuss them in the future. He did mention that these issues were serious enough for him to contemplate withdrawing from the fight.
“It was a very complicated fight due to everything that happened,” Pereira said. Despite the difficulties, he has no regrets about fighting. He believes his journey and perseverance have inspired many. He has faced and overcome similar challenges before, but this time the outcome was different, yet he remains without regrets.
After rewatching UFC 313, Pereira scored the fight 48-47 in his favor, believing he won rounds 1, 3, and 5. He is determined to have a rematch.
Pereira made it clear that a rematch with Ankalaev is his priority, and he is not interested in any other fight. He feels he has earned this rematch due to his track record, although he is yet to discuss it with the UFC organization.
Ankalaev has suggested a potential rematch in August on social media, indicating agreement with a UFC offer. Pereira is open to this plan, stating he hasn`t received an official offer but likes the idea.
“I’ll be ready,” Pereira confirmed, seeing August as a suitable date.
Pereira is eager for the rematch, anticipating a different fight. He is confident in his ability to dominate Ankalaev, potentially even with a knockout victory.
