2025 Vezina Trophy Finalists Revealed

NHL news

As the Stanley Cup Playoffs continue, the National Hockey League has begun unveiling the finalists for its major awards for the 2024-25 season. On Monday, the league announced the three finalists for the Vezina Trophy, which is awarded annually to the top goaltender. The nominees are Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets, Darcy Kuemper of the Los Angeles Kings, and Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Hellebuyck, who was the recipient of the Vezina Trophy last season, had an outstanding performance this year for the Presidents` Trophy-winning Jets. He posted a record of 47-12-3 with a remarkable 2.01 goals-against-average, a .925 save percentage, and eight shutouts over 63 games. Hellebuyck led the entire NHL in wins, goals-against-average, and shutouts. His save percentage ranked second in the league, just behind Anthony Stolarz (.926) of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

If Hellebuyck is awarded the Vezina Trophy again this season, he would join an elite group of goaltenders who have won the award in consecutive seasons, becoming only the fourth to do so alongside legends Martin Brodeur, Dominik Hasek, and Patrick Roy. Martin Brodeur was the last netminder to achieve this rare feat, winning in 2007 and 2008 as a member of the New Jersey Devils.

Finalists for the remaining NHL Awards are scheduled to be announced daily through the middle of May. The ceremony for the 2025 NHL Awards is slated to take place in June 2025, although the specific date for the event has not yet been announced.
