2025 NHL Playoff Race Tracker: Conference Standings and Wild Card Spots

NHL news

The National Hockey League`s regular season is nearing its end, with the final games scheduled around April 17th. As the season concludes, the battle for playoff spots is intensifying, both for division titles and wild card positions.

In this crucial final month, every point gained is vital for teams aiming for a favorable playoff seed. Hockey fans will be closely monitoring the standings in the next three weeks as teams vie for a place in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

As of now, four teams have already secured their playoff berths: the Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, Winnipeg Jets, and Washington Capitals. The Winnipeg Jets currently hold a narrow lead over the Washington Capitals in the competition for the Presidents` Trophy, awarded to the team with the best regular-season record.

The playoff landscape is expected to shift daily, so we are providing a daily NHL playoff race tracker to keep you updated. This tracker will be refreshed each day to show the playoff standings and the position of each team as the postseason approaches.

NHL Playoff Seeding Explained

  • The top three teams from each division automatically qualify for the playoffs.
  • Each conference (Eastern and Western) has two wild card spots available for teams that are not in the top three of their division but have the next best records.
  • In the first round, the top division winner in each conference will face the second wild card team, and the other division winner will play against the first wild card team.
  • The teams finishing second and third in each division will compete against each other in the first round.

*Regulation wins are used as the primary tiebreaker, followed by regulation and overtime wins combined. Shootout wins are not included in the regulation and overtime wins count. `X` indicates a clinched playoff berth.
